Brendan Mitchell

Glen Canyon National Recreation Area

Brendan grew up in the small Michigan town of Swartz Creek. When he wasn’t drawing or reading, he spent much of his childhood hiking, camping, and indulging in nature photography. Initially unsure of what he wanted to study, he attended Michigan State University where he ultimately joined up with the Fisheries and Wildlife program. While at MSU, Brendan worked with a Uganda-based community conservation initiative called Snares to Wares, and he also co-authored a research paper that is being published in Conservation Biology. Last summer, he was an intern with the Department of Interior Office of Wildland Fire in which he developed his understanding of how the worlds of conservation and government intermingle. Now that he has graduated with a Bachelor of Science, he is excited to be at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area and wants to help others appreciate the beauty of the park and instill a desire to maintain the area for future generations.
