Esmeralda Reyes

Biscayne National Park

Esmeralda was born in Inglewood, CA and then moved with her family to Homestead, Florida. Her appreciation for the environment began in her adolescences, as she began to understand the importance of conservation and environmental engagement. She attended and graduated from Florida International University in Miami, Florida with a Bachelors of Arts in International Relations and Political Science. Her work within South Miami’s low income communities has helped her develop and understand of the obstacles/barriers that the community has towards environmental awareness. Her work within the community and nonprofits only furthered her passion for environmental engagement. Which in turn, led her to volunteer weekly within Biscayne National Park for three years. She is continuously looking for ways to further her knowledge by either attending Naturalist courses (UF:IFAS Master Naturalist), engage in meaningful conversations with the general public/environmental or wildlife specialists, webinars, and/or literature. With tremendous gratitude and appreciation she will begin her work as Biscayne National Parks Community Volunteer Ambassador for 2020, in which she will assist her colleagues at Biscayne National Park.
