Yosemite National Park
Jamie Gonzales, grew up in Moreno Valley, in Southern California and has lived and worked in Yosemite National Park since 2015.
Her main experience lies in the fields of health and wellness and childhood education. She has previously worked at her park's Wellness Center which is a gym and recreation department, then for the National Park Service. She started her career in wellness at a gym as a personal training assistant, and knew she wanted to continue to work in health and wellness education.
She spent the past year working as an intern for the Park Service, as a Community Builder where she was able to focus efforts on connecting resources and building community within the many park organizations. Through this position, she worked with local law enforcement, the park therapist/mental health services, the medical clinic, Yosemite Conservancy Art Center and other partners to plan initiatives and events that foster healthy connections.
She's volunteered with a communal volunteer group as a lead in recruiting speakers and facilitating workshops based on personal and environmental health. The workshop she personally led was on plant based eating with a short history of the FDA. She has also worked with families to get children outside and learn healthy eating through meal prepping for their parents and family.
She believes that health comes not only from our physical states but from our mental and environmental conditions as well. One of her goals is to continue doing outreach with a focus on planning & implementing platforms and programs that can teach families and individuals not only about physical, mental and environmental health.
She is excited to bring more ideas of health, wellness and safety to the volunteers that pass through the Yosemite VIP program.
