Kasumi Collins

Alcatraz Island/Golden Gate National Recreation Area

February 2023

Kasumi Collins is originally from Fort Collins, Colorado and graduated from University of Hawai`i at Hilo in 2021 with a B.S. in Biology (Ecology, Evolution, and Conservation). Growing up, she enjoyed spending time outside, hiking, camping, and rock climbing. She has always been an artist as well, finding creative outlet through painting. Although she never imagined she would pursue a career in science, after taking some courses in community college she discovered her love for biology. She decided to pursue a career in science and applied for university in Hawaii. Her time in Hawai`i broadened her experiences and perspective on what science can look like.

Today, Kasumi is a very passionate biologist who is interested in the intersection between the natural world and community. She continues to make art and jewelry inspired by nature. She sees the connection between science, art, and human beings in the world around her. She is looking forward to learning more about how she can develop a career at that intersection while being the CVA at Alcatraz Island/Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
