Kathryn Maupin

Fire Island National Seashore

February 2023

Kathryn is a returning CVA from Long Island, NY. Fire Island holds a special place in her heart. Growing up she spent many summers swimming in the beaches of Fire Island and fishing off the piers in Captree State Park. She even got engaged at the top of the Fire Island Lighthouse in October of 2021.
She is an alumnus of Binghamton University, having obtained her masters in the Spring of 2021 in Archaeology. Prior to coming on as a CVA she worked for New York State as an Educational Specialist.
Her first term as a CVA she spent working alongside the National Park Rangers, learning from them about the history and ecology of Fire Island. During her first term she worked on a Jr lifeguarding program with the Law Enforcement division, created a Shark Conservation program for Shark Week and started working on a Citizen Science Program with the park biologist.
Now that she is back working as the CVA for the Fire Island National Seashore she hopes to grow the current Volunteer in Parks program and provide more opportunities for youth volunteers at the park.
