Lei De Vera

Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area

Leiann (Lei) De Vera was born and raised in "America's Finest City," sunny San Diego. She has completed her B.S. in Environmental Science and Resource Management, with an emphasis in Environmental Science at California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI). During her time at CSUCI she was Treasurer of Kilusan Pilipino, the largest cultural organization on campus, an active member of Green Generation, an organization centered around environmental awareness and sustainable culture, and part of Gamma Beta Phi, the national collegiate honor society. Lei volunteers under the Planning Science and Resource Management (PSRM) Division as a Data Management Assistant, she maintains digital archives for various long-term monitoring programs, digitizes/enters field data into program databases, and generates basic summary statistics for general reporting. In addition to volunteering, she is an Environmental Educator for K-8 students under the Resource Conservation District of the Santa Monica Mountains (RCDSMM), conducting virtual programs primarily to Title 1 schools in Los Angeles and Ventura County. Her pathway to success started in 2017, being a part of the Education Division at Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SAMO), aiding in community outreach and EKiP (Every Kid in the Parks) programs. Through Education Division she was able to gain the skills and experiences for the CVA position and continues to carry out community engagement wherever she goes and hopes to inspire the community through volunteerism. Through her first and second term, she’s gained more skills and leadership qualities to further the VIP Program at SAMO, she is now serving her third term and aspires to always push towards continuing successes and further improving operations for the greater good of SAMO and the community.
