Leiann De Vera

Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area

Leiann (Lei) De Vera was born and raised in "America's Finest City," sunny San Diego. She is about to complete her B.S. in Environmental Science and Resource Management, with an emphasis in Environmental Science at California State University Channel Islands. Alongside this, she's Treasurer of Kilusan Pilipino, the largest cultural organization on campus, Green Generation, organization centered around environmental awareness and sustainable culture, and part of Gamma Beta Phi, a national collegiate honor society. During this time, she's been able to engage in service learning opportunities that involved protecting the threatened Western Snowy Plover shorebird while collaborating with State Parks, aid in data collection and GIS (geographic information system) mapping re-vegetation growth at the Santa Rosa Islands Research Station, at the Channel Islands, and for a year be a part of the Education division at Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area (SAMO), aiding in community outreach and EKiP (Every Kid in the Parks) programs. Through Education Division she was able to gain the skills and experiences for the CVA position, and continues to carry out community engagement wherever she goes and hopes to inspire the community through volunteerism. Through her first term, she’s gained more skilled and leadership qualities to further the VIP Program at SAMO, now Lei is serving her second and aspires to always push towards continuing successes and further improving operations.
