Maggie O’Kelley

Ocmulgee Mounds National Historical Park

February 2023

Raised in the rural town of Monticello, Ga, Maggie spent her childhood in the woods always accompanied by an assortment of chickens, ducks and turkeys. Her earliest memories were of her time spent at the ocean with her family catching crabs off the pier before trading them at a local shop for ice cream. Her curiosity of the natural world and love of exploration led her to have a deep and profound respect for the environment with her first true calling outdoors beginning at the Charlie Elliott Wildlife Center where she served as a seasonal naturalist. Her travels have taken her from the Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge in Georgia where the low gurgle of alligators can always be heard to the California coast observing elephant seals resting in droves on the beach. In the Fall of 2022 she graduated with a bachelor's degree in Biology. In her free time she can be found gardening, painting and reading.
