American Memorial Park

Hafa adai yan tirow!
Shannon Sasamoto is a CVA at American Memorial Park which is located in Saipan – the capitol island
of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands. The only national park in the CNMI, American Memorial Park was established to honor the American and Marianas people who gave their lives in the Marianas Campaign of WWII. Before joining the team at the park,
she was an intern at the Division of Coastal Resources Management where she supported community outreach focusing on the island’s natural resources. She is currently pursuing her Bachelor’s degree in Business Management at the Northern Marianas College and
is also wrapping up her duties as the current Miss Marianas. It is a position that has given her a great amount of experience in getting to know the community and creating different projects even throughout the pandemic. One of her most recent projects was
helping to plant 500 trees throughout the islands.
American Memorial Park played a big role in her childhood. She remembers her family going there
for picnics, to rollerblade, swim, and roll down the iconic hill she is sure many remember. This is a park that means a lot to the community with many visitors each day which is why she strives to preserve and maintain this park to the best of her abilities
in order to properly honor and cherish this part of CNMI’s history.
