Grand Portage National Monument
Thalia Raine was born in Minnesota and grew up in sunny San Diego, CA. She spent a lot of time at the San Diego Zoo, Wild Animal Parks, and exploring beaches which fueled her fascination and love for animals. She then became a mom who then shared her love of animals and nature with her daughters by exploring the Pacific North West! Having later discovered her family on her dad’s side, she packed up and moved to Grand Portage, MN to establish a connection to her heritage, Lake Superior Band of Chippewa (Anishinaabe). She spent last summer exploring Lake Superior and local trails with her daughters and her newfound family. She found herself in an extraordinary situation to which she applied for the CVA position at the Grand Portage National Monument. Which she saw it as an opportunity to connect even further to the community. She hopes that through her first term, she will be able to strengthen the connection of the Band to the National Park through inclusivity and volunteerism.
