Walt Young

Vicksburg National Military Park

Walt Young is in his first year as the Community Volunteer Ambassador at Vicksburg National Military Park. He grew up north of Baltimore, MD, and graduated from the University of Pittsburgh in 2019 with degrees in History and Statistics. Midway through college, he found an internship at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in West Virginia and fell in love with the Park Service. Over parts of three years working at Harpers Ferry, he worked primarily in the Living History branch, helping to organize weekend events and interpret the park’s exhibits – all while looking the part of a 19th century soldier or civilian! He hopes that this experience working side by side with volunteers in the field will serve him well at Vicksburg. Outside of work, he enjoys reading, hiking, and Baltimore sports.
