Usha Hippenstiel

Rock Creek Park

September 2023

Usha was born and raised in Washington, D.C., where she attended local public schools in the area until she graduated high school from the School Without Walls.

She grew up visiting Rock Creek Park, forming a deep love for the ecosystems and cultural legacies in the park. Upon graduating high school, she attended the University of California at Santa Barbara for the first two years of university. Despite UCSB being an incredible experience academically, her passion pushed her to leave the beach in pursuit of a career geared toward forestry.

She found a home at the University of California at Berkeley for her last two years of university, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Ecosystem Management & Forestry. At UC Berkeley, she could often be found at Russell Forest Research Station or at Mulford Hall, engaging and holding leadership roles within the Forestry Club and Logging Sports Team.

She is honored to be the Community Volunteer Ambassador for Rock Creek Park. After university graduation, she had hoped to return back to her hometown to make a difference at the park where she grew up and originally fell in love with the natural world. Becoming the CVA for Rock Creek Park has given her this opportunity, and she is truly grateful and super excited for this year!
