Jill Black

Antietam National Battlefield

Winter 2024

Jill Black was born and raised outside of Frederick, MD. Growing up with Civil War Reenactors, Jill had a second home alongside canvas tents and campfires. In high school, Jill realized that they had a deep passion for sharing the stories of those affected by the Civil War. Jill found work with Eastern National at Antietam's Park Store and began pursuing a degree in 19th Century America and Civil War History from Shepherd University (Shepherdstown, WV). In that time, Jill spent a few months with the Appalachian Conservation Corps serving as the Education and Visitor Services Intern at Antietam National Battlefield. Jill is now serving as the CVA at Antietam Battlefield where she is very excited to work with the many wonderful volunteers there. They are hoping to organize a few park volunteer events centered around invasive plant species removal and trash pick-ups. With a love for the outdoors and a hankering for history, Jill has found one of the best places to be.
