National Service member activities, depending on the service branch under which they serve, can vary. While direct service and in-direct service activities are necessary to be successful in your service, the focus and overall goal of your term dictates the ratio of direct and in-direct service you will perform. To engage the public through volunteerism, service-learning, and community engagement programs and activities, particularly engaging new audiences and communities. The CVA initiative will allow the National Park Service to develop the next generation of lifelong conservationists and leaders, with the hope of generating lifelong support in the form of a skilled and diverse workforce, through service, education, and training opportunities.

Member Professional Development Goals

All Stewards individually placed service members – regardless of service type – are trained, supported, and provided access to a variety of professional development opportunities with the goal of securing a temporary or permanent position within a nonprofit, state agency, or federal agency or to provide experience that will enhance and further educational aspirations in secondary and/or post-secondary academic settings.
