Nick Taylor

Wilson's Creek National Battlefield

Winter 2024

Originally from the Commonwealth of Virginia, Nick has been passionate about history and the outdoors since his childhood. He began his NPS career working as an education intern at Harpers Ferry National Historical Park in 2019. While there, he developed a passion for sharing place-based stories with the public and learned to overcome his anxiety in speaking in front of a crowd. In 2020, he earned his BA degree in History at West Virginia University, where he also had a minor in Recreation, Parks, and Tourism Resources Management. He went on to Colorado State University in Fort Collins, CO, where he earned his MA degree in Spring of 2023 with a concentration in Public History. As a graduate student at CSU, he worked as a teaching assistant and even worked as a researcher on the Ram Stories: COVID-19 Oral History Project, where he conducted and transcribed student interviews.

Nick previously obtained seasonal employment with the NPS as an interpretive park ranger at Vicksburg National Military Park and Fort Monroe National Monument. He now serves as the CVA for Wilson's Creek National Monument. He hopes to gain experience in volunteer recruitment and play an active role in fostering connections with community organizations (particularly school clubs) in the Springfield, MO area.

On his days off, Nick likes to go geocaching (an outdoor scavenger-hunt activity), ride his bike, play on his PlayStation 5, and visiting other historic sites and national parks in the area.
